Since I was a kid, I’ve always been fascinated with advertising. As a toddler, my mom used to always laugh about how I would run to look at the 300 lb. floor model television in our living room when I heard a commercial come on.

That was way back in the 3-channel days. If you wanted to know when a show was airing, you looked in the TV Guide. And if you were busy or not at home when it aired, you just missed it.

There was no DVR or VOD capability; the sort of technological advancements created in an effort to skip as much advertising as possible. Try as we may to avoid ads, they’re still everywhere. But many of them are ineffective for a variety of reasons.
